Zelenskyy Accelerates Domestic Missile Production Amid Russian Infrastructure Strikes

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced plans to accelerate the development of domestic ballistic missiles and an anti-ballistic missile defense system, targeting concrete results by the turn of 2026–2027. Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine will utilize its role in the European Freyja programme to produce missiles and launchers, relying on partners to provide critical components such as radars and sensors.

Simultaneously, Ukrainian forces conducted long-range strikes against Russian oil refineries in the Bashkortostan and Yaroslavl regions. Ukraine also targeted Russian military patrol boats and vessels from the Russian shadow fleet in the Black Sea. These actions coincide with a period of intense Russian aggression, including a missile and drone blitz that killed 17 people in Kyiv.

On the diplomatic and legal fronts, Zelenskyy is scheduled to visit Belgrade to attempt to shift Serbian alignment away from Moscow. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court of Sweden approved the transfer of the Caffa, a seized Russian cargo ship found to be transporting stolen grain, to Ukraine.

International reactions have focused on the humanitarian cost of the conflict. United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres condemned strikes by both Russian and Ukrainian forces on populated areas following reports of a significant increase in civilian casualties.
