Marco Rubio Hosts Quad Ministers Ahead of Manila Summit

Secretary of State Marco Rubio meets with foreign ministers from Australia, India, and Japan to prepare for President Donald Trump's first Quad leaders' summit.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio will host a meeting with the foreign ministers of Australia, India, and Japan on Saturday. The session serves as preparation for the Quad leaders' summit scheduled for November 15-18 in Manila, which will coincide with the ASEAN conference and mark the first Quad leaders' meeting for President Donald Trump.

Rubio is concluding these preparations following a two-day G20 foreign ministers' meeting in Atlanta. The G20 gathering was marked by deep diplomatic divisions regarding the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East. These tensions led European members to refuse to be pictured with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, resulting in the cancellation of the traditional family photo.

Despite the friction in Atlanta, Rubio expressed hope that the G20 ministers established a foundation for the upcoming leaders' summit, which is planned for December 14-15 at the Doral golf resort.
