Finland Urges Elon Musk to Expand Starlink Coverage Over Russia

Finnish President Alexander Stubb pleaded with SpaceX owner Elon Musk during the United Nations annual gathering in New York to expand Starlink satellite internet coverage into Russian territory and occupied Ukraine. Stubb argued that this expansion would allow Ukraine to strike Russian ballistic missile launchers, a critical need as the country faces an acute shortage of air defenses ahead of winter.

While in New York, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy advocated for ceasefires to protect Black Sea vessels and energy infrastructure, and met with Wall Street executives to secure investment for economic recovery. Stubb also expressed support for an unconditional ceasefire to stop the killing, noting that U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated this position during the assembly.

Security tensions escalated as Danish intelligence warned of a growing risk of Russian strikes against Nato infrastructure following the sabotage of a Starlink satellite station in Poland. Nato Secretary General Mark Rutte stated the alliance is prepared for such hybrid incidents, asserting that Russian President Vladimir Putin is not winning the war. Meanwhile, Russian strikes on Kyiv and the Kharkiv region killed eight people on Thursday. In a separate diplomatic effort, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced increased work to re-establish the Black Sea grain corridor.
