Donald Trump Conducts Six-Month Military Bombardment of Iran

President Donald Trump has conducted a six-month military bombardment of Iran to prevent the country from developing nuclear weapons. The campaign follows Trump's 2018 decision to withdraw from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, an international agreement with Russia, France, China, Germany, and Great Britain that limited Iranian uranium enrichment and nuclear stockpiles.

Trump justified the strikes by stating that Iran rejected opportunities to renounce its nuclear ambitions and attempted to develop long-range missiles. While he claimed a June 2025 bombing obliterated Iranian nuclear sites, critics argue the current conflict is a direct result of scrapping the original pact. Secretary of State Marco Rubio previously condemned the JCPOA as a disastrous deal sweetened with illicit payments.

Reports indicate the military strategy has weakened U.S. influence in the Middle East. The conflict has granted Iran increased leverage over oil traffic through the Gulf of Hormuz.
