Taiwan Foreign Minister Visits Arizona to Bolster Semiconductor Ties
Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung visits Phoenix to open a representative office and strengthen semiconductor partnerships amid shifting U.S.-China diplomatic tensions.
Taiwanese Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung will visit Phoenix, Arizona, on Saturday to strengthen economic ties and semiconductor partnerships with the United States. During the trip, Lin is scheduled to open a new Taiwanese representative office in Phoenix, meet with state and city officials, and visit a Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. factory.
The visit aims to support Taiwanese investments in the U.S. and build industrial clusters in collaboration with American government and academic institutions. Taiwan is leveraging its critical role in the semiconductor supply chain to maintain U.S. support as Beijing continues to claim sovereignty over the island.
This diplomatic effort follows a state visit by Chinese leader Xi Jinping to Washington, where President Donald Trump agreed to a trade truce until early 2027. During that meeting, Xi urged the U.S. to oppose Taiwan independence, a request that would represent a shift in long-standing U.S. policy.
