Marco Rubio Declares International System Broken at UN Assembly

United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio declared the international system broken during the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Rubio argued that the system has grown beyond its mandate and intent, leaving it unable to resolve major global conflicts. He specifically cited potential clashes between India and Pakistan and past wars between Thailand and Cambodia as examples of the system's failure, stating that the United States will prioritize its own national interests over the international order.

These remarks follow claims by President Donald Trump, who asserted that he prevented a full-scale war between India and Pakistan in May 2025. Trump stated that his intervention followed the Pahalgam terror attack and India's subsequent Operation Sindoor, claiming the Prime Minister of Pakistan credited him with saving millions of lives.

The Government of India has consistently rejected these claims of third-party intervention. Indian officials maintain that the 2025 ceasefire was a mutual agreement between the two nations rather than the result of U.S. mediation.
