Trump Administration Restores Trust in AI Firm Anthropic

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick announced the Trump administration has reconciled with Anthropic after the AI company complied with national security and safeguard requests.

U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick announced that the Trump administration has restored its trust in AI company Anthropic. The reconciliation follows months of conflict regarding national security and AI safeguards, a period of tension that previously resulted in sweeping export controls on the company's advanced models.

Lutnick stated that Anthropic is now "back on the right side" after complying with administration requests. The repair of the relationship was driven by discussions between Anthropic co-founder Tom Brown and officials including Lutnick and National Cyber Director Sean Cairncross. Brown praised President Donald Trump's view of data centers as sources of prosperity and affirmed the company's support for the administration's ratepayer pledge.

The government's shift follows a legal victory for the company in August, when a federal judge overturned a Pentagon decision that had blacklisted Anthropic as a supply-chain risk. The judge ruled that the blacklist violated the company's constitutional rights.
