Modi and Netanyahu Discuss West Asia Tensions and Strategic Partnership

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a telephone conversation on August 6, 2026, to discuss recent developments and the current situation in West Asia. The leaders reviewed the progress of the India-Israel Special Strategic Partnership and reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation across various sectors for mutual benefit.

This diplomatic engagement follows a previous call in March and a state visit by Modi to Israel in February, during which the partnership was elevated to a Special Strategic Partnership for Peace, Innovation and Prosperity. The two nations are currently working toward a Free Trade Agreement, having concluded a second round of negotiations in July to enhance trade and investment.

Cooperation continues to expand in defense, cybersecurity, agriculture, water management, finance, and infrastructure. Israeli Ambassador to India Reuven Azar previously described the bilateral relationship as being on an "amazing trajectory." India continues to monitor the heightened geopolitical tensions in West Asia while advocating for dialogue and de-escalation.
