UK to Ban Trade With Israeli West Bank Settlements

The Government of the United Kingdom is expected to announce a ban on trade with Israeli settlements in the second week of September 2026, following the return of Parliament. Prime Minister Andy Burnham and Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband reportedly support the measure, which follows a recent Israeli tender for 1,234 homes in the E1 area of the West Bank.

This policy aligns the UK with similar trade restrictions already implemented by Spain, Ireland, and the Netherlands. While the move has the public endorsement of nearly 250 British MPs and approximately 50 percent of the public, it faces expected opposition from the Conservative and Reform parties.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Israeli government have previously threatened to expel the UK from the International Gaza Support Center in response to international pressure. While the economic impact on the £6 billion annual trade between the two nations is expected to be limited, the ban is viewed as a symbolic action intended to encourage other nations to adopt similar policies.
