Colombia Partners With U.S. for Joint Anti-Terror Operations
Colombia and the United States agreed to conduct joint military operations to combat narco-terrorism and drug gangs within Colombian territory.
The Government of Colombia has partnered with the United States to conduct joint military operations against drug gangs and narco-terrorism. U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced the agreement on Wednesday in Panama, noting that Colombia requested the assistance of the Department of War to destroy terrorist networks.
This agreement makes Colombia the fourth and largest Latin American nation to join the regional security strategy developed by President Donald Trump, following Ecuador, Honduras, and Guatemala. The shift in policy follows the recent inauguration of President Abelardo de la Espriella, a conservative lawyer and Trump ally who took office last week. De la Espriella pledged to crack down on armed groups after four years of leftist governance in the country.
