Israel Weighs Strikes on Turkish Assets Outside NATO Borders

Israel is evaluating military strikes against Turkish assets in Syria, Cyprus, and Somalia following accusations that Turkey is coordinating a campaign to encircle Israel.

The Government of Israel is evaluating military options to strike Turkish assets located outside Turkey's sovereign borders to avoid triggering NATO's Article 5 collective defense clause. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened an emergency security cabinet meeting with the Minister of Defense and intelligence heads to address escalating tensions with the administration of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Israeli officials are assessing targets in Syria, where Turkey is expanding its military presence and preparing to deploy advanced air defense systems, and in Cyprus, where Turkish military infrastructure is viewed as a threat to Israeli energy corridors. Potential targets also include a Turkish missile testing complex near Warsheikh, Somalia. Israel has already conducted a targeted strike on Abu Dhur airport in Idlib, Syria, as a warning against Turkish military encroachment.

These developments follow allegations that Turkey is conducting a multi-front campaign to undermine Western interests and isolate Israel. The Turkish government is accused of funding covert influence operations in the United States, using the Maarif Foundation to export political Islam, and providing support to Hamas. Additionally, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan recently signed the Mecca joint defense agreement, a move characterized as a strategic effort to encircle Israel.
