Donald Trump Calls Brazilian Election a Disgrace

Donald Trump criticized Brazil's presidential election as a disgrace after Senator Flavio Bolsonaro claimed the results were fraudulent and fled to Miami.

U.S. President Donald Trump characterized the Brazilian presidential election as a "disgrace" and a "great embarrassment to the people of Brazil." While Trump did not explicitly state whether he accepts the victory of Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, he noted that he had been asked by the current Brazilian president not to take sides.

The comments follow claims by Brazilian Senator Flavio Bolsonaro that the runoff election, which Lula da Silva won by over 4 million votes, was marred by fraud. Bolsonaro sparked further controversy by publishing a social media letter describing himself as the rightful "president-elect." He deleted the post an hour later, replacing the term with "leader of Brazil."

Paulo Figueiredo, an unofficial spokesperson for the Bolsonaro family, attributed the error to OpenAI's ChatGPT. Figueiredo stated that Eduardo Bolsonaro used the AI to finalize the text and the chatbot inadvertently included an earlier draft and an outdated coat of arms. Despite the correction, Figueiredo maintained that Flavio Bolsonaro views the election as illegitimate.

Flavio Bolsonaro has since traveled to Miami, United States. He departed Brazil after refusing a Brazilian Supreme Court order to surrender his passports in connection with a money-laundering investigation.
