Iran Rejects U.S. Ceasefire Amid Escalating Regional Missile Strikes

Military tensions between the United States and Iran escalated sharply following Donald Trump's July 8 announcement that the ceasefire established by the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding was no longer in effect. The two nations have since exchanged strikes, with the U.S. conducting 13 consecutive nights of air raids targeting Iranian military assets in Bandar Abbas and civilian infrastructure, including bridges and water desalination plants. Iran's Ministry of Health reported 55 deaths and 645 injuries from these attacks.

In response, Iran launched Operation Lightning, utilizing drones to target U.S. military bases in Kuwait, Jordan, and Bahrain, as well as an Amazon data center in Bahrain. The Iranian military reported destroying an ammunition depot at Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait. Major General Abdollahi of the Khatam Al-Anbiya Central Headquarters warned that for every Iranian martyred, one American soldier will be targeted.

During a Shanghai Cooperation Organization meeting in Kyrgyzstan, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi rejected a U.S. ceasefire proposal conveyed via Iraq, stating Iran will not submit to bullying and will maintain its course until demands regarding the Strait of Hormuz are met. While Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Pakistani Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar urged a return to diplomacy, President Trump stated he is considering a massive attack, arguing the Iranian regime has not yet received enough pain.
