JD Vance Weighs 2028 Presidential Bid Amid Family Concerns

Vice President JD Vance stated he may not run for president in 2028, citing family considerations despite leading early Republican primary polls.

Vice President JD Vance stated during a CBS News town hall in Michigan that he may not run for president in 2028. Vance cited his family, specifically his wife, Usha, and their four young children, as central factors in his decision. He noted that while his wife loves public service, she has never loved politics.

Describing himself as a procrastinator regarding major life decisions, Vance indicated he will seriously consider a potential bid after the November 3 midterm elections to avoid distracting from the current administration's agenda. Despite this hesitation, RealClear Polling averages place Vance as the early frontrunner for the Republican nomination with 39% support.

Other potential contenders include Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who ranks second with support between 22% and 24%, and Donald Trump Jr., who holds 11%. Rubio has stated he has no current plans for a campaign and remains focused on his duties. President Donald Trump has previously called Vance his most likely successor, though he has also noted it is too early to endorse a candidate for 2028.
