Marco Rubio Visits India and Uzbekistan to Boost Energy Ties

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will visit Uzbekistan and India from October 17 to 22 to strengthen strategic partnerships and energy cooperation.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will travel to Uzbekistan and India from October 17 to 22, leading a commercial delegation of over 200 business leaders. Rubio will first visit Samarkand, Uzbekistan, for the C5+1 Ministerial and bilateral meetings with officials from Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.

In India, Rubio will visit Mumbai and Jamnagar to meet with senior government officials and business leaders. A primary focus of the trip is energy cooperation, specifically regarding a proposed $300 billion refinery in Brownsville, Texas, which President Donald Trump announced in March would be funded by Reliance Industries. In Jamnagar, Rubio is scheduled to meet with Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani at the company's massive refining complex.

The diplomatic push occurs as US Ambassador Sergio Gor describes the trip as business-focused, while other officials expect discussions on the Quad, West Asia, and Russian oil. Bilateral trade negotiations are reportedly nearing a landing point, according to Indian External Affairs Minister Subramanyam Jaishankar, though tensions remain over US tariffs, agricultural market access, and restrictions on the Permanent Labour Certification programme affecting Indian IT firms.

Further high-level engagements are planned for later this year, including the East Asia Summit in Manila in November and a visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Florida for the G20 Summit in December.
