Donald Trump Wishes Pope Leo XIV Speedy Cancer Recovery

President Donald Trump offered well wishes to Pope Leo XIV following the pontiff's surgery to remove a cancerous lung tumor.

President Donald Trump expressed wishes for a speedy recovery for Pope Leo XIV after the pontiff underwent surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from his right lung. Speaking to reporters in Bullhead City, Arizona, on Wednesday, Trump stated he wanted to see the Pope "get better fast."

The Vatican reported that the 71-year-old Pope is recovering as expected, walking and eating normally. He is currently awaiting biopsy results to determine if the cancer has spread. Other global leaders, including King Charles III of Britain, have also offered well wishes.

The gesture comes despite a history of friction between the two leaders. Pope Leo XIV has criticized the Trump administration's "inhuman treatment" of migrants and the US-Israeli war on Iran. Additionally, the Vatican declined to join Trump's "Board of Peace" initiative for Gaza. Trump has previously described the Pope as "terrible for Foreign Policy" and "WEAK on Crime."
