Japan Coordinates Meeting Between Takaichi and Xi Jinping at APEC

Japanese officials are coordinating efforts to ensure that Sanae Takaichi is not snubbed by Chinese President Xi Jinping during the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Shenzhen. The meeting will mark the first encounter between the two since relations deteriorated over a dispute regarding Taiwan.

Diplomatic ties between the two nations have reached one of their lowest points since the normalization of relations in 1972. While Japanese officials expect a customary handshake from the host leader, they acknowledge that the current lack of prior diplomatic groundwork makes the nature of the reception uncertain.
