Macron Challenges Trump's Gaza Peace Claims at United Nations

French President Emmanuel Macron challenged U.S. President Donald Trump's claims of achieving peace in Gaza during his final address to the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday. Macron dismissed the portrayal of the Gaza peace plan as a diplomatic triumph, asserting that not a single humanitarian corridor has reopened in the enclave. He characterized the situation as a spectacle that should "shame us all" and warned against a "new order of impunity" and a return to the "law of the jungle" where coercion replaces international rules.

Macron also expressed concern over Israeli settler violence in the West Bank, arguing that such actions threaten the prospects of a viable Palestinian state and weaken Israeli security. While Macron has faced domestic criticism for his own limited actions since recognizing a Palestinian state last September, France has recently imposed sanctions on settler violence and initiated a ban on products from Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank.

The White House rejected the criticism. Spokeswoman Anna Kelly stated that Trump ended the war between Israel and Hamas, secured the release of all living hostages, and is currently leading the implementation of a 20-Point Plan for Peace in Gaza.
