Canada Secures $300 Million in Trade Deals During India Mission

International Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu led a massive trade delegation to India, securing 34 commercial agreements and advancing a comprehensive economic partnership.

International Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu led the largest Canadian trade delegation to India in 30 years, visiting New Delhi, Bengaluru, and Mumbai. The mission included nearly 300 Canadian businesses and exporters, resulting in 34 commercial agreements valued at nearly $300 million. These deals span the aerospace, clean technology, life sciences, and infrastructure sectors.

During the visit, Sidhu met with Indian Industry Minister Piyush Goyal to advance negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. Both nations intend to conclude the agreement by the end of 2026. This diplomatic effort is part of a broader strategy by Prime Minister Mark Carney to reset relations with India after ties stalled in 2023 following the assassination of a Canadian Sikh activist.

Canada aims to double its two-way trade with India to $70 billion annually by 2030, an increase from $30.4 billion in 2025. As part of this renewed partnership, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Toronto and Ottawa on December 11 and 12, 2026.
