Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan Sign Mecca Joint Defense Agreement

Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the President of Türkiye, joined Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in signing the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement on August 7, 2026. The three leaders met at the Al-Safa Palace in Mecca to establish a collective defense framework that treats an armed attack against one member as an attack against all.

The alliance integrates Turkish military-industrial capabilities, Saudi financial resources, and the strategic depth of Pakistan. While the agreement does not officially name a specific enemy, the pact represents a strategic effort by the member nations to reduce their dependence on Western security architectures and the United States.

This coordination follows a period of deteriorating relations between Türkiye and Israel. By forming this bloc, the participating governments aim to secure greater strategic autonomy and reshape the regional security order in the Middle East.
