Tesla Model 3 Sales Surge in Canada After China Trade Deal

Tesla Inc. saw a spike in Canadian Model 3 sales following a trade agreement between Canada and China that reduced electric vehicle tariffs.

Tesla Inc. experienced a surge in Model 3 sales in Canada during the third quarter, fueled by aggressive pricing and the arrival of shipments from China. Some Model 3 trims were priced 25 percent lower in Canada than in the United States, contributing to the sales boost.

The increase follows a trade agreement between Prime Minister Mark Carney and President Xi Jinping. The deal allows up to 49,000 electric vehicles to enter Canada over 12 months at a reduced tariff rate of 6.1 percent, replacing a 100 percent surtax implemented in 2024 that had previously blocked Chinese EVs from the market.

Government data shows nearly 16,000 electric vehicles have arrived from China since May, with half of those priced under $35,000. Globally, Tesla delivered 486,532 vehicles in the third quarter, exceeding expectations despite intense competition in China and sluggish demand in the United States.
