Rahul Gandhi Accuses Modi Government of Destroying Tata Group
Rahul Gandhi accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of treating Indian businesses as playthings following a leadership dispute within the Tata Group.
Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi alleged on October 28, 2026, that the Tata Group is being "criminally destroyed." Gandhi accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah of treating Indian business as their "plaything" and criticized other business leaders for remaining silent in the face of government interference.
These political accusations follow a corporate conflict within the conglomerate regarding the reappointment of Natarajan Chandrasekaran as Executive Chairman of Tata Sons. Noel Tata, Chairperson of Tata Trusts, challenged the validity of a September 17 board resolution to reappoint Chandrasekaran, labeling the move illegal because he vetoed the decision.
In a letter dated October 26, Noel Tata cited procedural irregularities, claiming the meeting agenda did not explicitly mention the reappointment and that no Selection Committee was constituted. He asserted that the resolution is void and demanded certified copies of the resolution along with audio and video recordings of the meeting. Tata Trusts holds a 66% stake in Tata Sons. Neither the Indian government nor the Tata Group has issued a response to Gandhi's claims.
