Israel and US Heighten Alert Amid Iranian Threats

Israel and the United States have increased military readiness against Iran and its proxies ahead of critical elections in both nations.

The Israeli defense establishment and the United States have heightened military readiness due to fears of regional escalation involving Iran and its proxies. While the Israel Defense Forces report no concrete intelligence of an imminent attack, officials are monitoring Iranian ballistic missile and drone tests. The primary concern is that miscalculated defensive measures or limited proxy actions from the Houthis or Hezbollah could trigger a larger conflict.

Benjamin Netanyahu and President Donald Trump are unlikely to initiate military strikes before their respective elections on October 27 in Israel and November 3 in the United States. Netanyahu views a pre-election campaign as a political risk, while Trump has vowed not to attack Iran before the midterms. However, Trump has sent conflicting signals, including a threat at an Alaska rally to hit Iran hard. The Trump administration continues to maintain a naval blockade on Iranian ports, causing Iran estimated daily losses of $400 million to $500 million.

IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir warned that the potential for escalation has increased given the high number of alerts across multiple arenas. Israel has informed Washington that any Iranian provocation will meet an exceptionally severe response. Netanyahu asserted that Iran would make the "mistake of its life" if it attacked Israel, emphasizing the country's ability to act independently.
