Donald Trump Promises $5,000 Payments if Republicans Retain Congress
President Donald Trump pledged $5,000 payments to all adult U.S. citizens if Republicans maintain control of the House and Senate after the midterm elections.
President Donald Trump pledged to provide $5,000 payments to all adult U.S. citizens if Republicans maintain control of the House and Senate following the midterm elections. Speaking at a rally in San Antonio for Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, Trump stated the payments would be funded through tariff revenue and economic success, asserting that only Republicans could fulfill the pledge.
Trump did not provide a distribution timeline or clarify if the plan would require congressional approval. The proposal has already met skepticism from some members of Congress and economists.
Separately, Trump announced that more than 20 million Medicare enrollees will receive a one-time $90 payment to assist with monthly medical insurance premiums. These funds are sourced from a $2 billion Medicare Improvement Fund allocated by Congress. Most eligible seniors are expected to receive the payment via check or direct deposit in early October.
This Medicare initiative follows other administration financial proposals, including $500 refunds for individuals who paid excessive health insurance fees under the Affordable Care Act. Both the Medicare payments and the proposed $5,000 checks come as the Republican Party seeks to maintain narrow majorities in the House and Senate during the November midterms.
