Ken Paxton and James Talarico Tie in Texas Senate Poll

Republican Ken Paxton and Democrat James Talarico are deadlocked in a high-stakes U.S. Senate race in Texas according to a recent Fox News poll.

A Fox News poll released Wednesday shows Ken Paxton and James Talarico tied at 49% among likely voters in the race to replace Senator John Cornyn. The contest has become a critical battle for partisan control of the U.S. Senate, with Talarico leading among urban residents, Black voters, and those under 30, while Paxton maintains strong support among rural voters, White evangelical Christians, and voters aged 65 and older.

Paxton, the Texas Attorney General, secured the Republican nomination after defeating Cornyn in the primary. His campaign is backed by a Republican machine that has spent over $200 million, though he continues to face scrutiny over a 2023 impeachment for bribery and corruption and reports of socializing with fugitives in Dubai.

Talarico, a state representative, has centered his campaign on the link between corruption and affordability. While he has attempted to moderate his views on capitalism and Christianity to appeal to centrist voters, Republicans have attacked his past comments on religion and the American flag. Vice President JD Vance and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins have campaigned for Paxton, characterizing Talarico as a radical.
