Trump Pursues Greenland Mining Investments for National Security

The United States is negotiating investments in Greenland's critical minerals sector to reduce reliance on China, boosting shares of mining company Amaroq Minerals.

The United States government is pursuing investments in critical minerals mining in Greenland to diminish China's dominance in the sector. Donald Trump has emphasized the island's strategic necessity for national security and appointed Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry as Special Envoy to Greenland. As part of this effort, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is scheduled to meet with Danish officials to discuss the future of the self-governing territory.

These diplomatic and strategic maneuvers have led to discussions between U.S. government bodies and Amaroq Minerals, a Canada-based company operating in South Greenland. The talks involve potential credit lines, infrastructure support, and offtake agreements for minerals including gold, copper, germanium, and gallium. Following reports of these negotiations, shares of Amaroq Minerals surged on the TSX Venture Exchange.

While the U.S. State Department expressed eagerness to build lasting commercial relationships, the Trump administration has also maintained rhetoric regarding the potential acquisition of the territory. Amaroq CEO Eldur Olafsson confirmed the ongoing investment talks, noting the importance of cooperation between the Nordics and the U.S.
