Russia Launches Systematic Drone Campaign Against Ukrainian Gas Stations

The Federal Government of Russia has launched a systematic drone campaign targeting civilian gas stations across Ukraine, recording at least 246 strikes since April 2026. This escalation serves as retaliation for long-range strikes conducted by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine against Russian oil refineries to disrupt war revenues.

Russian Defense Ministry officials claim the targeted stations are used by Ukrainian troops to manage transport logistics. However, Ukrainian officials and industry analysts argue the attacks target independent retail businesses to terrorize the civilian population. The strikes have caused multiple deaths in Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, and Izium, while stations in Kharkiv and the Dnipropetrovsk region have suffered extensive damage.

In response, fuel-market operators including WOG have implemented safety measures, such as suspending fueling during air-raid alerts and limiting nighttime operations. Despite the targeted destruction of infrastructure, the Oil and Gas Association of Ukraine reports that the campaign has failed to create widespread fuel shortages or trigger price spikes.
