President Bola Tinubu Returns to Nigeria Amid National Crises

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to return to Nigeria on Tuesday, September 29, following a four-week working vacation in London and Paris that began on August 30. The Presidency described the Tuesday arrival as a slight adjustment to a previously announced weekend return. During his time in Europe, Tinubu met with French President Emmanuel Macron and businessman Vincent Bolloré to discuss investments in Nigeria's creative and digital economy.

Tinubu will fly directly to Lagos, where he will be received by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. His itinerary includes a public lecture on September 30, a documentary premiere on MKO Abiola at the National Theatre, and a national broadcast to mark Nigeria's 66th Independence Anniversary on October 1. He is expected to return to Abuja next weekend.

Upon his return, the president faces a series of domestic crises. These include internal conflict within the All Progressives Congress between Minister Nyesom Wike and the Progressive Governors’ Forum, as well as constitutional challenges regarding the legality of his extended absence. He must also address record-high petrol prices and a September 30 deadline from labor unions demanding wage increases and fuel stabilization. Additionally, the administration is managing investigations into the deaths of 37 detainees in Minna and escalating banditry and kidnappings across Sokoto, Zamfara, and Plateau states.
