President Bola Tinubu to Attend 81st UN General Assembly
President Bola Tinubu will address the United Nations General Assembly in September to discuss Nigerian reforms and West African border security.
Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President of Nigeria, will attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York this September. This visit marks his first appearance at the assembly in two years, during which period Vice President Kashim Shettima represented the country.
President Tinubu is scheduled to deliver a speech at approximately 10:45 a.m. New York time focusing on the successes of Nigeria's national reforms. Beyond the main address, he will participate in side events centered on power generation, hospital management, and education.
A primary objective of the trip is to establish a border policing framework with the United Nations to combat insecurity and manage porous borders in West Africa. Jimoh Ibrahim, Nigeria's Permanent Representative to the UN, stated that the president will be seated near U.S. President Donald Trump, which may facilitate a first public meeting between the two leaders.
