John Fetterman Pledges Not to Campaign Against Dave McCormick

Democratic Senator John Fetterman announced he will not campaign against Republican Senator Dave McCormick if McCormick seeks reelection in 2030. In an interview with the Washington Examiner, Fetterman described McCormick as a "great guy" and a friend, stating he would "absolutely never move against" him.

This pledge marks a reversal from the 2024 Senate race, when Fetterman fundraised for Bob Casey and labeled McCormick a "Connecticut carpetbagger." Since McCormick's victory, the two have developed a personal relationship, co-sponsored bipartisan legislation, and established a joint fundraising committee. McCormick praised Fetterman for calling out "craziness" within the Democratic Party, noting that such positions have made Fetterman unpopular with some of his own colleagues.

The senators' close relationship has sparked speculation regarding Fetterman's party affiliation. Senate Majority Leader John Thune indicated that Republicans would welcome Fetterman into their conference, and Donald Trump offered full backing and funding for a party switch. Fetterman has repeatedly rejected these possibilities, stating he is staying a Democrat because he would be a "terrible Republican" who would still vote overwhelmingly with Democrats.
