James Talarico Campaigns Across Texas in Tight Senate Race
Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico held rallies in El Paso and Amarillo while new polling shows a strong lead among Asian American voters.
Democratic U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico held a campaign rally in El Paso on Monday and scheduled a meet-and-greet in Amarillo for Tuesday as part of his Clear Eyes Big Hearts tour. With the November 3 election eight days away, Talarico urged voters to prioritize a broad vision for the state over party labels, specifically calling for improved public schools and a stronger economy. He criticized Republican opponent Ken Paxton, citing an affordability crisis and a $200 million donation from Elon Musk to the Paxton campaign.
While overall polls indicate the race is a dead heat, a new survey commissioned by the Asian Americans Texas Action Fund shows Talarico leading Paxton by nearly 17 points among Asian American and Pacific Islander voters. However, the poll reveals a significant lack of direct engagement, with over 70% of AAPI respondents reporting no contact from Talarico's campaign and 81% reporting no contact from Paxton's. Two-thirds of these voters believe Talarico must do more to earn their vote, while 77% feel the same about Paxton.
Democrats are seeking their first Texas Senate seat victory since 1988. As Talarico campaigns in the state's periphery, Ken Paxton also visited Amarillo on Monday to compete for voters in the closely contested race.
