BJP Demands Rahul Gandhi Apologize After 7.8% GDP Growth

The Bharatiya Janata Party demanded an apology from Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi on September 1, 2026, following his descriptions of the Indian economy as a dead economy and his warnings of an economic tsunami. The party cited India's 7.8 percent GDP growth for the April-June quarter as evidence of economic resilience and a rebuttal to the Congress party's narrative.

During a press conference, BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad credited the growth to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the policies of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and the contributions of Indian industry and workers. Prasad compared India's performance to that of Canada, Germany, and the UK, which saw growth rates of 1.5 percent, 1 percent, and 2.1 percent respectively during the same period.

Prasad accused Gandhi of making irresponsible and false charges that defame India. He further claimed that Gandhi's comments are utilized by Pakistan to portray the Indian economy in a negative light, asserting that the latest figures exposed a baseless narrative.
