China Warns of Countermeasures Over Proposed US Tariffs

The Government of China is monitoring potential new U.S. tariffs and has reserved the right to take countermeasures following reports that the United States is considering a 7.5% levy on Chinese goods. The proposed tariffs stem from U.S. investigations into alleged excess capacity in China.

President Donald Trump is seeking to revive his protectionist trade agenda through these levies after the Supreme Court of the United States invalidated previous import taxes. The Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China rejected the probe, characterizing it as being conducted under the "pretext of overcapacity."

Foreign Minister Wang Yi urged the U.S. to return bilateral relations to the "right track," accusing Washington of implementing negative measures based on unfounded grounds.
