Marco Rubio Warns Cuba Against Waiting Out Trump Administration

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned the Cuban government on Monday that it cannot simply outlast the Donald Trump administration without implementing significant political and economic reforms. Speaking on Fox News, Rubio characterized Cuba as a failed state in every sense of the word, asserting that corruption and control by the military and Communist Party have left the nation without a functional economy.

Rubio urged Cuban officials to pursue a different path from communism, cautioning that those clinging to revolutionary slogans are mistaken and will learn the hard way if they do not adjust. This diplomatic pressure coincides with severe economic strain in Cuba, including power outages, fuel shortages, and a U.S.-imposed oil blockade introduced earlier this year.

While the Trump administration has intensified pressure following the January removal of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, President Donald Trump suggested over the weekend that the two nations could reach an agreement without military action. Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez stated during the United Nations General Assembly on Saturday that Havana remains open to dialogue with Washington.
