Donald Trump Questions Brazil Election Results After Lula Victory
President Donald Trump described Brazil's recent presidential election as looking rigged after Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva secured a fourth term.
President Donald Trump questioned the fairness of Brazil's presidential election on October 27, 2026, describing the process as looking like "another rigged election." Speaking to reporters at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, Trump stated the situation was a "terrible look for the world," though he clarified he would not intervene because he is not running Brazil.
The comments follow the October 25 second-round vote in which incumbent President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva defeated right-wing candidate Flávio Bolsonaro to secure a fourth term. While Trump noted that he gets along well with Lula, Bolsonaro has refused to recognize the results and is demanding their annulment.
Brazilian officials expressed confidence that the United States will formally recognize the victory. One official asserted that the Brazilian government will stand and is not like Venezuela.
