While Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi conducted a diplomatic tour of Russia, Oman, and Pakistan to project strength, the Trump administration faced internal instability. Public feuds erupted between Vance and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, coinciding with the resignation or removal of several top military officials, including Navy Secretary John Phelan and Army Chief of Staff General Randy George. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that Iran's leadership had humiliated and outwitted the United States at the negotiating table.
