Army Secretary Daniel P. Driscoll Resigns Amid Pentagon Tension

Army Secretary Daniel P. Driscoll submitted his resignation to President Donald Trump following months of tension with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. The conflict centered on the strategic direction of the U.S. Army and the removal of senior leadership, including the firing of Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George and the downgrading of Gen. Chris Donahue's position.

Driscoll's departure leaves the Army without any Senate-confirmed civilian or military leaders. Gen. Christopher LaNeve currently serves as acting chief, though he faces congressional concerns regarding his leadership and decisions. The leadership vacuum is expected to widen as the Deputy Undersecretary of the Army is also slated to step down later this week.

White House officials praised Driscoll for his leadership in restoring readiness and lethality, as well as his assistance with negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.
