UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham Sets Manchester as 2027 G20 Host

Prime Minister Andy Burnham announced that Manchester will host the Group of 20 (G20) summit in November 2027. The announcement took place during Burnham's first trip to the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where he also met with U.S. President Donald Trump.

The summit will be held at the Manchester Central convention complex. While the decision to select Manchester was made before Burnham took office, the Prime Minister stated the location aligns with his regional growth agenda and the establishment of his No 10 North office. Burnham has extended invitations to several world leaders, including Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin of Russia, Xi Jinping of China, and Javier Milei of Argentina.

The United Kingdom will assume the G20 presidency from the United States in December, following a summit hosted by President Trump at the Trump National Doral Miami golf resort. The British government intends to use the presidency to support the national economy during a period of global volatility. During their meeting in New York, Burnham addressed Trump's previous description of Manchester as merely a town, asserting that the city is more than that.
