Rahul Gandhi Attacks Modi Government at Congress Convention

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi delivered a wide-ranging critique of the BJP-led government during the Rachnatmak Congress National Convention in New Delhi on August 13, 2026. Gandhi accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah of attempting to impose a restrictive political order on India to benefit a select few, vowing that the opposition would keep the leaders awake until they resign.

Gandhi mocked the Prime Minister's foreign policy, claiming diplomacy has been reduced to hugging foreign leaders rather than pursuing national interests. He alleged that India missed a critical opportunity to mediate the conflict in Iran, which allowed Pakistan to step in as the mediator. Additionally, he claimed the government suppressed information regarding Chinese forces blocking Indian patrols in Arunachal Pradesh and argued that previous claims that no land was lost during the Galwan clash weakened India's position with Beijing.

Addressing internal affairs, Gandhi criticized the government's handling of NEET-UG paper leak protests at Jantar Mantar and characterized the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as an instrument of large capital serving interests like Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani. He described the BJP-RSS leadership as a bunch of jokers who lack an understanding of contemporary India.

BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj responded to the speech by calling Gandhi's remarks uncultured and indecent, characterizing the opposition leader as a failed stand-up comedian.
