Elon Musk Pledges Up to $120 Million for GOP Midterms

Elon Musk has authorized his super PAC, America PAC, to spend between $100 million and $120 million to support Republican candidates in the 2026 midterm elections. The initiative focuses on a massive get-out-the-vote operation utilizing door-knocking, digital advertising, and direct mail to mobilize conservative voters who typically abstain during non-presidential election years.

The program targets Senate races in Alaska, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, and Ohio, with potential expansions into North Carolina, Georgia, and Texas. It also targets House races in California, Washington, and Wisconsin. In Maine, the spending specifically supports Senator Susan Collins in her race against Democrat Troy Jackson. This follows a 2024 cycle where America PAC spent over $260 million to help elect Donald Trump.

This renewed commitment follows a reconciliation between Musk and President Donald Trump after a period of friction that led to the dissolution of the Department of Government Efficiency. The move contradicts recent comments by Musk to The Economist, where he suggested he had become too involved in politics. Additionally, Musk is expected to maintain a lower public profile following a finding by the Wisconsin Elections Commission that his 2025 practice of giving checks to voters likely violated state law.

James Blair, a senior political adviser to the president, described the PAC's return as a huge boost for the GOP. The investment comes as Republicans seek to retain congressional control despite challenges including economic dissatisfaction and declining approval ratings for the president.
