First Indian Business Delegation Visits China Since 2020 Standoff

The Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Chambers of Commerce and Industry led the first Indian trade mission to China in five years to explore technology and energy partnerships.

A trade delegation from the Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Chambers of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) visited Shanghai and the Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces in China from March 29 to April 4, 2026. This mission represents the first Indian business delegation to visit China since a five-year freeze in relations followed the 2020 military standoff at Eastern Ladakh.

The visit follows the normalization of bilateral ties resulting from meetings between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping in 2024 and 2025. During the trip, Pratik Mathur, the Indian Consulate General of Shanghai, hosted a Business Round Table that brought together Indian delegates and Chinese firms, including HSBC and Wuxi Technology Development Corporation.

The delegation focused on establishing partnerships in sunrise sectors, specifically renewable energy, electric vehicles, information technology, and infrastructure development. These collaborations are intended to support India's objective of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
