Russia Launches Massive Strikes and Violates Polish Airspace

The Federal Government of Russia launched a massive coordinated aerial assault on July 30, 2026, deploying over 70 missiles and 280 drones across 10 Ukrainian regions. The strikes targeted military-industrial sites, airfields, and residential areas in cities including Kyiv, Lviv, and Kryvyi Rih. A particularly devastating strike in the village of Radushne destroyed a private home, killing members of the Voronov family, including several children. Ukrainian officials reported that the attack utilized North Korean KN-23 ballistic missiles, marking the first use of such weaponry since August 2025.

During the barrage, a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile violated NATO airspace, crashing in an uninhabited field near Tarnawa-Kolonia, Poland. The impact left a crater approximately 10 meters wide. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk described the event as a "very serious incident," though he noted there was no reason to believe Poland was the intended target. NATO responded by scrambling F-16 fighter jets and early-warning aircraft to secure the territory.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy used the escalation to urge international allies for urgent air-defense interceptors, citing a "critical shortage" of Patriot missiles. Following a meeting in Washington, U.S. President Donald Trump agreed in principle to license the production of Patriot missiles domestically in Ukraine, though no new immediate supplies were pledged. In retaliation, Ukrainian forces conducted long-range drone strikes against Russian oil refineries in Perm and Ryazan, as well as multiple Wildberries logistics centers, which Ukraine alleges are used to supply the Russian military. Further Russian strikes on Kyiv continued into August 1, causing additional residential and industrial damage.
