Delhi Police Crack Down on Anti-Modi Social Media Posts

Delhi Police ordered social media platforms to remove offensive and abusive posts and videos targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This digital crackdown follows student protests at Jantar Mantar and violence during the July 20 Sansad Chalo march, where demonstrators protested irregularities in the NEET and CBSE examinations.

Law enforcement is utilizing a social media monitoring team to scan platforms and issue takedown notices to intermediaries, reporting that several crude comments have already been removed. Simultaneously, the police deployed approximately 3,000 personnel to Jantar Mantar and used Facial Recognition System cameras to identify over 2,000 individuals with criminal records.

The July 20 protests resulted in injuries to at least 130 police personnel and 65 students. Rahul Gandhi and the Indian National Congress condemned the use of force as brutal and disproportionate, alleging the use of pellet guns. The police maintain that the action was necessary to counter violence from anti-social elements.
