Judge Orders Justice Department to Disclose Trump Settlement Details

The United States Department of Justice is resisting requests to disclose the details of a settlement with Donald Trump that resolved a $10 billion lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service. As part of the agreement, Attorney General Todd Blanche issued an order immunizing Trump, his family, and his company from audits of past tax filings.

A group of critics, including a federal employee union and a former federal prosecutor, filed a lawsuit in Virginia challenging this immunity and a proposed $1.8 billion fund intended for victims of government weaponization.

During a hearing in Alexandria, Virginia, US Magistrate Judge Ivan Davis criticized the Justice Department for refusing to provide the names of individuals involved in creating the settlement. Judge Davis ordered the release of preliminary disclosures and scheduled a September 4 hearing to decide if the government must be compelled to provide further information. US District Judge Leonie Brinkema is scheduled to hold a separate hearing on September 18 to consider the administration's motion to dismiss the lawsuit.
