Netanyahu Rejects Trump Peace Plan for Gaza Stabilization
The United States Department of State notified Congress of funding for a Gaza stabilization force, but Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected the accompanying peace plan.
The United States Department of State notified Congress of its intent to fund an international stabilization force for Gaza as part of a 21-point peace plan proposed by President Donald Trump. The plan outlines a phased process to disarm Hamas and transfer weapons to a new Palestinian administration in exchange for a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected the proposal, insisting that Hamas must fully disarm before any Israeli military withdrawal occurs. Jared Kushner traveled to Egypt and Jerusalem to meet with Hamas leaders and Netanyahu in an attempt to salvage the agreement, but these diplomatic efforts failed to resolve the impasse.
Following the failed negotiations, Israel conducted an airstrike in Gaza that killed at least seven people. The Israeli defense minister described the strike as a signal of the country's unwavering position regarding the terms of disarmament and withdrawal.
