Trump and Netanyahu Weigh Land Blockade to Isolate Iran

President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met in Washington on Tuesday to discuss imposing a land blockade on Iran. The proposal seeks to intensify economic pressure by persuading Iran's neighbors—including Iraq, Turkey, and Pakistan—to restrict border crossings and block the flow of imports and exports. This strategy follows Trump's conclusion that naval efforts to control the Strait of Hormuz have reached their limit.

The move aims to cripple the Iranian economy and hinder the delivery of Chinese rocket launchers and air defense systems as Tehran attempts to rearm after the U.S. and Israeli military operations Epic Fury and Roaring Lion. While Israeli officials suggest the blockade could bring the regime to its knees, some U.S. military analysts describe the plan as almost impossible given Iran's borders and its close alignment with Iraq.

These discussions occur as Trump's military strategy faces a stalemate. Previous U.S. strikes retaliating for Iranian attacks in Jordan failed to secure meaningful negotiations, and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz has spiked global oil and fertilizer prices. This economic instability has pushed Trump's domestic approval rating for his Iran policy below 30 percent. Simultaneously, Oman is promoting a separate compromise to transform the Strait of Hormuz into a jointly managed maritime corridor to restore shipping services.
