FHFA Director Bill Pulte Allegedly Scrutinized Attorney General's Mortgages

Bill Pulte, Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, allegedly examined the mortgage records of Attorney General Todd Blanche last year. This scrutiny occurred during a conflict regarding investigations into political rivals of President Donald Trump.

Pulte previously referred allegations of mortgage fraud to the Justice Department concerning Senator Adam Schiff, New York Attorney General Letitia James, and Federal Reserve governor Lisa Cook. Some officials suggest Pulte used the review of Blanche and others to pressure the Justice Department to accelerate those specific investigations. A lawyer for Pulte has denied the claim that the director reviewed Blanche's mortgage files, calling the assertion false.

Parallel to these events, the Justice Department investigated whether Trump administration officials, including Pulte, inappropriately leaked information regarding the probe into Senator Schiff. Additionally, internal investigations at Fannie Mae into the improper access of mortgage documents were halted after Pulte removed the investigators from their positions.
