One hundred days after the leadership change, Labour has regained a two-point lead over Reform UK in national polls. In Barnsley, the party is using a council byelection in the Penistone East ward to test its ability to reconnect with voters. While some residents remain aligned with Reform UK over immigration concerns, others have expressed a willingness to return to Labour, citing Burnham's positive tone and leadership style.

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage was re-elected in Clacton but remains under a parliamentary standards investigation regarding his financial gifts. In Barnsley, Labour group opposition leader James Higginbottom continues to manage the party's local recovery efforts following the scale of the Reform victory.
