Kash Patel Establishes FBI Law Enforcement Ties With China and Russia

FBI Director Kash Patel launched unprecedented law enforcement partnerships with China and Russia to combat transnational crime, including fentanyl trafficking and cyber fraud.

FBI Director Kash Patel has established unprecedented law enforcement partnerships with China and Russia to combat transnational crimes such as cyber fraud, child sexual exploitation, and fentanyl trafficking. These collaborations involve personnel exchanges, intelligence sharing, and joint operations organized as working groups.

Recent successes include Operation Sand Dollar in May, a joint raid with China's Ministry of Public Security and Dubai police that resulted in 300 arrests and the seizure of $300 million. In June, the FBI and Chinese authorities collaborated to dismantle a multinational child abuse network in Omaha, Nebraska. These ties were initiated following personal diplomacy and a 2025 visit to China by President Donald Trump.

While Patel asserts that counterintelligence measures can manage the risks of working with adversaries, former FBI officials warn that granting these regimes access to U.S. facilities creates espionage opportunities. Secretary of State Marco Rubio described the cooperation regarding fentanyl precursors as a work in progress.
