Narendra Modi Unveils Sapta Dhara Roadmap for Developed India 2047

Prime Minister Narendra Modi led India's 80th Independence Day celebrations on August 15, 2026, delivering his 13th consecutive address from the Red Fort in New Delhi. During the ceremony, which featured a 21-gun salute and the first full rendition of Vande Mataram at the site, Modi unveiled the Sapta Dhara framework. This seven-point roadmap focuses on manufacturing, agriculture, technology, infrastructure, defence, the green/blue economy, and soft power to achieve the goal of a developed nation, or Viksit Bharat, by 2047.

Modi highlighted India's economic transition from the Fragile Five to the world's fastest-growing major economy. He detailed specific advancements in energy security, including a goal of 100 gigawatts of nuclear power capacity by 2047, and reported significant growth in semiconductor and defense production. To support future growth, he announced AI training for 10 million youth, free online coaching for competitive exams, and a nationwide sports talent hunt for children aged 5–15 to support a 2036 Olympic bid.

Addressing internal security, Modi declared that armed Naxalism and Maoist violence are "breathing its last," though he warned against "dimagi Naxals"—intellectuals with Maoist thinking embedded in public life—who he argued must be isolated. The celebrations occurred amid heightened security in Delhi and Gurugram following bomb threats from Babar Khalsa Canada. Internationally, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio congratulated India, noting the strong bilateral ties between President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Modi.
